CHIKMAGALUR: People, even in this 21st century, get scared when they hear about ghosts, black magic, sorcery, etc.
Four girls of Angadi Government High School in Mudigere taluk are reportedly behaving violently, without any provocation.
The girls are said to be haunted by some evil spirit, and have been undergoing treatment in the Mallegowda General Hospital of the city since last Friday.
DHO Dr.Eshwarappa and DS.Dr O G Prakash told the parents and the public that it is only a case of mass hysteria.
Background:
All the 4 girls were classmates of Angadi Government High School. The school is situated where Sala, the founder of Hoysala Dynasty, killed a tiger.
These girls have been, reportedly behaving strangely for a fortnight, crying hoarse, attacking men with filthy language as if they were under the spell of a ghost.
It is said that a teacher had committed suicide in the same place sometime back. ‘His evil spirit might have haunted the girls', the villagers say.
The teachers of the school say that the girls were absolutely behaving normal before the assumed attack. Now the parents of other students are also panicky.
However, Psychiatrist Rudrappa, who attends to the girls, opines that such behaviour is common among some adolescent girls who suppress their feeling.
It is a psychosomatic disorder or hysterical psychosis in medical terms, which can be cured.
Now, the mentally sick girls are kept in a separate ward where no one is allowed to see them.
